M.O.B My Own Business
by Jessica Goldsmith
Discover the journey of Lucia Morciano Wordsmith
When did you start your business?
I launched Lucia Morciano Wordsmith in 2014, initially offering translations and writing services. In 2021, I expanded into visual poetry, creating unique
merchandise and stationery, transforming my passion into a thriving business.
Why did you start?
The world needs more poetry, so I’ve decided to cover it with mine, experimenting with concrete, found, cutup, 3D, and traditional poems, and putting
them on bags, cards, notepads, pillows, and more.
What skills are needed?
To excel in my field, you need linguisticand creative writing skills, gained through qualifications or experience. Business acumen, patience, boldness, and humility
are essential. Be humble and bold and ask for help if you need it. I hold a BA in Modern Languages and Theatretherapy training in Italy, and an MA in Creative
Writing from Birkbeck.
Daily challenges?
Each day brings its own set of hurdles, but they also offer opportunities for growth and learning. Whether it’s mastering new digital tools, navigating the ups and
downs of sales, or overcoming self-doubt, these challenges shape my journey and keep me striving for success.
What are the benefits?
Seeing people’s faces light up when they connect with my poetry is incredibly rewarding. Networking with fellow artists and makers enriches my creative journey,
and showcasing my art to the world is a dream come true. Attending beautiful events adds a touch of magic, making every effort worthwhile. These moments
of connection, inspiration, and celebration make all the challenges worth it. Truly, it’s a labour of love.
