Community Protect

February is Heart Health Awareness Month

by Sonja Camara

As community health champions, we understand the unique challenges
faced by individuals from lowincome households and marginalised communities. Persistent health issues can be overwhelming, but taking small steps towards a healthier heart can make a big difference.

Exercise Regularly:

Aim for 30 minutes of physical activity each day. This doesn’t
have to be intense; even a brisk walk can improve heart health.

Eat Balanced Meals:

Incorporate fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet.
These foods provide essential nutrients that support heart health.

Manage Stress:

Practice mindfulness, meditation, or yoga to reduce stress.
Managing stress effectively can lower your risk of heart disease.

Call to Action:

This February, take charge of your heart health. Schedule a health
check-up to monitor your blood pressure, manage your weight, and seek support to quit smoking. These steps are crucial for maintaining a healthy heart. Let’s work together to build a healthier community,
one heart at a time.
