Quilt Comfort by Jane Reid
My name is Jane Reid-Diagne, I am a local artist living and working from home in Tottenham. I love textiles and making patchwork
quilts. I make quilts that celebrate life, arriving or passing, quilts that tell stories.
Quilts comfort us, keep us warm in winter or cool on hot summer nights and traditionally are passed down through
families. The process of making a quilt is labour intensive, as each stage needs consideration and time.
My preference is to work with natural cotton and linen fabrics. I enjoy working with commercial fabrics from fabric houses and small design runs. Other elements of my work are hand dyed, using different creative processes to decorate and colour the fabric, such as cyanotypes, shibori (Japan) and sudza (Africa).
Looking at pattern, colour and seasonal change influences the way I choose to piece my quilts, allowing each one to be unique. When working to commission,
the process is directed by the buyer, conversations around the story of the quilt and the personality of the receiver are key.
My quilts can be seen on my instagram @bettyjanequilts where I can be direct messaged and I also have a small collection of pre-made bespoke quilts
available for sale
