The business was founded in May 2009
Why did you start your business?
MLB was started to meet a clear need that
existed for Business, Career & Personal Development support services. And also for personal fulfilment (a desire to leave
’employment’ & to work for oneself).
What training was required?
Business start-up support, mentoring and ‘industry guidance’. This enabled us to harness and put to immediate use our previously established skills, knowledge and experience.
Your typical day at work?
Delivering workshops, holding one-to-one client consultations, liaising with prospective customers, handling online/ telephone enquiries, developing joint venture/ collaborative partnerships… the list goes on. Suffice to say, no two days are the same.
Challenges in the business?
Access to funding, marketing MLB’s services to new prospects, cash-flow and navigating other challenges that other small businesses face when operating in the ‘third sector’.
Rewards in the business?
A great sense of achievement when clients go on to establish their businesses, develop their careers and are empowered to surmount personal challenges that were previously holding them back.
Best advice given to you regarding your business that you took on board.
Do the research to identify customer ‘needs’/ believe in yourself & colleagues/ remain focused/ be adaptable to change/ listen & observe (people, market & social trends)/ do not ‘stagnate’ but regularly add to your ‘offering (services)/ take ‘carefully calculated’ risks and remain committed and energised.
