When did you start your business?
I started out in 2014 as ‘Siân Dorman Textiles’ when I graduated from my Textiles Design BA course at UAL: Chelsea College of Art & Design. I now create Fashion & Headwear all made from waste materials.

Why did you start your business?
I started my business due to my concerns to do with ethical and environmental issues within the Fashion & Textiles Industry.

What training was required?
Alongside my Textiles Design degree, I also studied at London College of Fashion for my Foundation in Art & Design. I am also currently studying a business course!

Your typical day at work?
I am not a morning person; I start off later and work into the night with a coffee break to spend time with my partner Daryll who is also self-employed. This helps me refocus.

Challenges in the business?
Prioritising is probably my biggest challenge. The priorities never stop coming so I have to keep reassessing them.

Rewards in the business ?
I work on a commission basis with clients. These are usually the most rewarding as I get to see how excited it makes the client to bring their dream to reality.

Best advice given to you regarding your business that you took on board?
Decision making. If it involves any spending of money- take a good while to think if the decision is worth the spend. If the decision does not require a fee- go for it. Take no time. Just be true to yourself and your values!
